TGS 2018: Sony will cease PlayStation Vita production in 2019

It is a sad day indeed for PS Vita fans. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Senior Vice President, Hiroyuki Oda, has revealed that production of the handheld console will come to an end in the coming year.
Speaking at the Tokyo Game Show 2018, Oda also mentions that there are currently no plans for development of a successor handheld console either.

On that note, Oda said that the 20 games considered for the PS Classic package, although it varies by region, are selected based on how iconic they are (or were). With the likes of Final Fantasy VII and Ridge Racer Type 4 in the mix, it seems like an apt description.
Meanwhile, let’s all have a moment of silence for the PlayStation Vita.
