Nier: Automata is 50% off on Steam in celebration of the series’ 8th anniversary

Square Enix’s Nier franchise is eight years old this week. Although the critically-acclaimed Nier: Automata has only been out for slightly more than a year. the original Nier was released in North America way back on 27 April 2010, and in Japan on April 22 that year.
To celebrate the series’ 8th anniversary in style, the publisher is offering on Steam a 50% discount for Nier: Automata, as well as its 3C3C1D119440927 DLC pack which contains new character equipment, cosmetic accessories, music tracks, outfits based on those as seen in the original Nier, and — most importantly — a boss fight against Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda.
After discount, gamers here in Singapore would only need to fork over S$41.45 for the full game, down from $82.90. The DLC pack can also be yours for an additional S$9.90, down from S$19.80.
The offer is good until May 7, should you need a little more time to think about picking up this award-winning action role-playing game. Apart from bagging the trophy for best role-playing game at the 21st Annual D.I.C.E. Awards in February this year, Nier: Automata has also been nominated for two BAFTA Games Awards for Game Innovation and Game Design.
Developed by Platinum Games, Nier: Automata is set in the year 11,945AD and revolves around a war between humanity and an invading alien species that wielded a technologically-advanced machine army. In order to survive, humanity had to evacuate to the moon. Not wanting to simply relinquish Earth to its invaders, humanity eventually builds a squad of combat androids that they send down to Earth to fight a proxy war. You play as 2B, who is one such android.
Apart from PC through Steam, Nier: Automata is also available on the PS4.
Although the promotion is currently only available on Steam, Square Enix’s official Twitter account for Nier: Automata notes that PlayStation gamers will also be able to join in on the celebrations — there are plans to run a similar promotion on the PlayStation Store. Details on that will be announced at a later date.
