Iranians Denied Access To WoW, No Thanks To US Sanctions

World of Warcraft players in Iran have been cut off from the game, no thanks to real-life US sanctions against their country.

“United States trade restrictions and economic sanction laws prohibit Blizzard from doing business with residents of certain nations, including Iran,” wrote a Blizzard employee on the forum. “This week, Blizzard tightened up its procedures to ensure compliance with these laws, and players connecting from the affected nations and restricted from access to Blizzard games and services.”

The post came after a week’s worth of complaints from Iranian players that they had trouble connecting to the game. And as if that official announcement wasn’t bad enough, Blizzard said it won’t be refunding, crediting, or offering other service options to affected players.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and will happily lift these restrictions as soon as US law allows,” the company said.

This is one novel way to start a revolution against your government!
