Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary event dated for 31 Jan

How do you begin celebrating the 30th anniversary of a brand synonymous with your company? When you’re Square Enix, the answer is easy: book a large venue and announce an event.

Posted on the Japanese Square Enix Members site is the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Opening Ceremony (via Siliconera), set to take place on 31 Jan. at Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills in Tokyo, Japan. Details are scarce but they’re promising to feature talks by special guests, in addition to sharing their planned projects for the big thirty.

More information on the event and guests will be released soon.

200 of those Square Enix Members will get to attend the ceremony too. There’s a registration link for it although it’s likely going to be more trouble than it’s worth, especially coming from overseas.

Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills is a high-end multiplex regularly used for movie premieres, local and international press events, as well as fan meet-and-greets.

Could Square Enix be planning something theatrical in nature, considering their stint with Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV? Or will they be putting to rest rumors of an all-in-one package featuring past games? Perhaps some updates for Final Fantasy VII: Remastered, which never fails to get fans in a tizzy?

Whatever the case, mark your calendars for 4pm, 31 January SGT.

Final Fantasy made its debut on the NES in 1987. Development on the RPG was only greenlit after the commercial success of Dragon Quest, with creator Hironobu Sakaguchi leading a core team of seven. It saw enough success to spawn remakes and sequels, with the series ultimately exploding in popularity with the launch of a system-selling Final Fantasy VII.
