Donate to the Singapore Children’s Society by simply downloading a game

Playpark’s charity campaign has named the Singapore Children’s Society as its beneficiary. From 15 March to 13 April 2016, the publisher has pledged to donate S$1 for every installation of Dragon Encounter, a mobile game available for both iOS and Android.
The Singapore Children’s Society is a non-profit organization established since 1952. With 11 service centres around the nation, they now serve over 68,000 children, youth, and families in need. Many of their stories have been publicized as part of the OCBC-Today Children’s Fund, and they even have a past link with videogames, albeit in the form of simple Flash games.
Playpark, Asiasoft’s gaming portal, intends for the campaign to “empower every mobile user, regardless of age or income, to become a force for social good.” And it really is as simple as installing the game – just a handful of minutes to help the underprivileged, in exchange for potentially hours, or even weeks, of entertainment.
“We are grateful to the community for our success over the years,” said Mr. Sherman Tan, Chairman of Asiasoft Online. “We hope to inspire the fortunate with this opportunity to help the next generation.”
Likewise, Mr. Alfred Tan, CEO of Singapore Children’s Society, had this to say: “We are always receptive to creative ideas for raising funds for our children in need, and we are grateful to Asiasoft for this opportunity to try out this very interesting and novel fundraising method to help our beneficiaries.”
In SCS’ 2013 financial report, direct charity expenditure alone amounted to $7.5 million. Factor in other costs such as administration, communications, research, advocacy and more, and that amount balloons to $13 million.
Therefore, the hope here is for people to help spread awareness as much as possible. Who knows, your older or younger relatives may just enjoy slaying dragons as much as you do.
Of course, those who feel the need to do more are welcome to contact SCS directly for other donation or volunteering opportunities.
For a quick recap, Dragon Encounter is a mobile RPG developed by South Korean studio SnowPopcorn. The game is both online and in real-time, with a party system, enchanting, gear progression, and everything else to take you through hundreds of dungeon-adventuring stages – endless towers await beyond the horizon.
