Chapter 13 tweaks, New Game Plus and more planned for Final Fantasy XV

Square Enix have revealed their content update plans for Final Fantasy XV in the coming year. In addition to previously announced DLC, fans are looking at gameplay tweaks, new story scenes, new game plus, and even new playable characters.

The announcement comes from game director Hajime Tabata himself, translated via the European Square Enix blog.

“As I’ve said before, release day is not the end for Final Fantasy XV, and I would like to share some of the things we have in store. The great reception we have received has actually allowed us to expand our plans even further,” writes Tabata.

All in all, the free content updates roughly look like this:

Short-Term Plans

• Gameplay enhancements for Chapter 13
• Buffs to ring magic etc.

Mid-Term Plans

• New story scenes to showcase character motivations

Long-Term Plans

• Making certain key characters playable
• Customizable avatars

Other Planned Features

• Carry over stats from the previous playthrough, i.e. New Game Plus
• Items that introduce new playstyles, e.g. low-level runs or god mode
• Font size changes for certain languages
• New bosses with exclusive rewards and achievements
• Limited-time hunts

Tabata explains that those new story scenes – “such as why Ravus walked the path he did” – are going to take some time due to all the localization work they’ll have to do.

More information will be available at a later date.

He closes off with a reminder of what the Final Fantasy XV Season Pass contains, all of which are tentatively named:

  • FFXV Holiday Pack
  • FFXV Booster Pack
  • FFXV Episode Gladiolus
  • FFXV Episode Ignis
  • FFXV Episode Prompto
  • FFXV Expansion Pack: Comrades

“Comrades” is the four-player co-op multiplayer expansion that was revealed back in October, featuring stories and gameplay experiences that Square Enix felt wouldn’t have fit in the main game.

Post-launch story scenes, new bosses, and hunts? It certainly is a new era for Final Fantasy.

For anyone who missed it, here’s a collaborative commercial they did with recently Nissin Cup Noodles:

Ade Putra

Ade thinks there's nothing quite like a good game and a snug headcrab. He grew up with HIDEO KOJIMA's Metal Gear Solid, lives for RPGs, and is waiting for light guns to make their comeback.
