Injustice: Warner Bros' New Fighting Game
Injustice: Gods Among Us was demoed at EVO 2k12 today. Unlike Mortal Kombat, we doubt we’ll see it at EVO next year.
This fighting game stars DC Universe heroes including Batman and Superman. Characters are split into two classes – Power and Gadget – with the Power category including heroes like Superman, and the Gadget-based heroes encompassing Batman, the Flash, and similar heroes.
Our beef with it? It’s a lot like Mortal Kombat. In fact, just watching the demo made us feel it was Mortal Kombat – sans the latter game’s pointless modes and with new skins for DC superheroes.
Injustice’s highlight is undoubtedly its cinematic moments. Much like a comic book, certain moves or environmental interactions use different camera angles, and there are even entirely cinematic transitions from one arena to another.
Arena? Yes, stages are known as arenas in Injustice, since they’re so huge. One arena encompasses three different areas, with different elements in the environment that the heroes can utilise. Each hero also interacts with the environment differently, opening up the possibility of tactics and strategies depending on the hero chosen by the player.
Ultimately, it doesn’t seem like Injustice is going to have the longevity or the clout of current-gen fighting games on the market – clearly lacking way behind its biggest competitor, Marvel’s superheroes, in terms of style and following. It also doesn’t help that the fighting game genre is already crowded with a LOT of quality titles.
But that said, we’re hoping to be surprised, though.
Injustice: Gods Among Us is slated for a 2013 release.
