Microsoft Buys Minecraft For US$2.5 Billion

Microsoft has acquired Mojang, creators of Minecraft, for several blocks of gold, to the sum of US$2.5 billion.
Following a recent trend of tech companies making odd investments, like Facebook buying Whatsapp, Apple owning Beats and Amazon taking Twitch, the billion-dollar deal will mean the departure of Mojang’s original founders, Carl O. Manneh, H. Jakob Porsér and Markus A. Persson, better known as “Notch”.
Minecraft as a game has grown from a simple building demo to a giant favourite of many around the world, expanding from the PC and Mac to the Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3 and PlayStation 4, with portable and mobile versions, none of which will abandoned and will be continue to be updated.
Mojang will become part of Microsoft Studios once the acquisition closes by the end of the year.
