PS4 Multi Packs to go on sale starting 16 Dec, three games for $76.90

It’s now the blue team’s turn to bring out the holiday deals. SIES (Sony Interactive Entertainment Hong Kong Limited Singapore Branch) have announced a set of PlayStation 4 game bundles starting at $76.90.

Consisting of previously released best-sellers, each multi-pack is home to critical hits such as Bloodborne The Old Hunters Edition and The Last of Us Remastered. They don’t appear to be themed around a particular genre or play experience but they make for great gifts nonetheless.

Each pack contains multiple Blu-ray discs.

PlayStation 4 Triple Pack #1 – $76.90

  • Bloodborne The Old Hunters Edition
  • Shadow of the Beast
  • Until Dawn

Bloodborne

Developed by the same studio that gave the world Dark Souls, Bloodborne is a PS4 exclusive set not in crumbling medieval castles but in a Gothic, Victorian-style city. Expect the same level of mystery and challenge permeating the world, only with a faster combat system and a fresh visual style. This includes The Old Hunters expansion which, depending on who you ask, is the best amongst the Souls-style releases.

Shadow of the Beast has a far less oppressive atmosphere, being a modern remake of the 1986 Amiga classic. For a platformer, the combat packs a surprising amount of depth although, as a whole, it likely appeals to fans of the original better – even so, the reception is mixed.

Until Dawn, however, should prove a fun experience. Inspired by teenage horror flicks, the cinematic-heavy game has players making decisions big and small for each of the characters, leading them to either a moment of respite or their untimely deaths.

PlayStation 4 Triple Pack #2 – $76.90

  • God of War III Remastered
  • Helldivers: Super-Earth Ultimate Edition
  • The Last of Us Remastered

The Last of Us Remastered

PlayStation’s current crown jewel, The Last of Us Remastered is a title not to be missed. The premise may not sound impressive – an action-adventure set in the post-apocalyptic United States – but The Last of Us combines excellent storytelling, gameplay, and character performances to bring the medium to new heights. The long line of fans and accolades, from both critics and fellow developers, can attest to that.

There’s also God of War III Remastered, the culmination of Kratos’ revenge against the Greek pantheon. A journey of truly epic proportions, the game will have you ascending Mount Olympus on the backs of Titans, raging through the River Styx, and enacting violent deaths upon anything in your way; this may not be for everyone. That said this is part of a trilogy, and without the first two games you’ll lose quite a bit of context.

Toning it all down to just good gameplay (phew) is Helldivers, a top-down shooter designed for co-operative play. Inspired by military science fiction flicks such as Starship Troopers, players are going to have to communicate and coordinate if they plan on getting anywhere alive – combat is frenetic and bullets don’t know the difference between friend or foe.

PlayStation 4 Triple Pack #3 – $76.90

  • Driveclub
  • LittleBigPlanet 3
  • Ratchet & Clank

Here’s the only family-friendly pack of the lot.

ratchetclankps4

Ratchet & Clank (2016)

Ratchet & Clank is a highly entertaining 3D action-platformer with an emphasis on guns – from good old blasters and flamethrowers to next-gen disco ball launchers. Yup, you read that right. A revisit of the first game in the series (with a similarly titled movie tie-in), this light-hearted adventure sees one Lombax and his robot friend go on to become the actual heroes the galaxy needs.

LittleBigPlanet 3 isn’t going to be a jet-setting journey across planets though it will take you to different worlds. The co-op puzzle-platformer introduces different characters with unique abilities, thus injecting more variety into their stable of physics-based puzzles. The game’s actual strength, however, comes from its many creation tools and the resulting plethora of community-made levels out there.

Tucked alongside the two animated entries is the more grounded Driveclub, a racing game focused on online events and forming social clubs. It’s one of the better games to start out as a beginner, thanks to the great controls, beautiful environments, and all the driver and vehicle customization you can get up to. There is a traditional world tour campaign too, except the AI has been subjected to heavy criticism.

PlayStation 4 Dual Pack – $89.90

  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
  • Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

There may be only two bullet points but, technically, there are four games here. And if its Uncharted we’re talking about then it’s safe to say you’re in for a good time.

A modern Indiana Jones, this treasure-hunting series sees Naughty Dog’s capabilities as a studio (the same developers who later made The Last of Us) grow with each successive entry – the third game had a hard time living up the second but they sure recovered by the fourth.

It’s a linear action-adventure, shifting between big gun fights to quiet platforming and old-fashioned puzzle solving. All that is backed with some great action set-piece moments, a rousing score, and an unforgettable crew of characters.
