FM Player Lands Real-Life Manager Job At FC Baku

The Football Manager game may have ruined many a relationship between a gamer and his girlfriend, but it has paid off for 21 year old Vugar Huseynzade, a student from Sweden who landed a job as manager of Azerbaijan’s FC Baku’s A team.

Vugar apparently beat many big names for the job, despite his management experience being completely virtual. His only other work experience was with a sports agency in the USA.

“I’ve always wanted to work in football and have played Football Manager since 2002,” he told Scandinavian newspaper Aftonbladet.

It is worth noting however that Vugar was already working with the club. According to Aftonbladet, a chance encounter with the vice-president of FC Baku last year helped Vugar get a job at the club as an assistant. It was only when the incumbent manager Kamran Ismayilov left that he was promoted to take charge of the ‘A’ team.

This is not the first time a fan of Football Manager has applied for managerial roles at football clubs. Six years ago, football fan and Football Manager player John Boileau applied to manage Middlesbrough.
