Court ruling may stop Xbox, Windows 7 sales in Germany
German courts has ruled in favour of Motorola and has allowed them to impose a sales prohibition of Xbox 360s, Windows 7 and the distribution of internet Explorer and Windows Media Player from Microsoft in Germany.
The Mannheim court has ruled that Microsoft has infringed various Motorola’s video compression technology patents, and has allowed Motorola to carry out the sales ban. However, an order given by a US court back in April will not allow Motorola to put the German ban in place, just yet.
Microsoft, which moved their distribution operations from Germany to The Netherlands in anticipation of such a verdict, has said it will appeal the German ruling. A hearing is scheduled for 7th May.
