CGF 2012 A Success Thanks to SEA Major

The Clementi Game Fest 2012 (CGF 2012), held over this weekend of 9th and 10th June, was a roaring success, with games of King of Fighters XIII, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Soul Calibur V, Street Fighter x Tekken, Fifa ’12 and Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, being played as a part of its two day tournament – the South East Asia Major: Road to EVO 2012.

The Major was one of the top-billed events happening as a part of CGF 2012. CGF 2012 saw an average of 1,500 to 2,000 visitors that weekend, half of whom, we’re convinced, were there to see Daigo ‘The Beast’ Umehara ;).

Apart from the much-hyped tournament, CGF 2012 also had a sure-win toy catcher, an arcade basketball machine, an Xbox Kinect setup and two slick Gran Turismo 5 setups opened to the public for free play. While the event had been touted as a family-friendly one, the incredible electricity of SEA Major: Road to EVO 2012  turned it into much, much more than that.

Not only did the SEA Major boast sizzling final matches between local FGC poster boy and Gen master DM.Xian and Daigo ‘The Beast’ Umehara, it also saw an array of Singapore’s better known cyberathletes.

Gracing the small but no less spirited Fifa ’12 tournament were Wen Jun ‘hibidi’ Chiang and Erwyn ‘El Rey’ Shah of Flash e-Sports, and Kim ‘kim07’ Leong. In the meantime, the local Street Fighter community was out in full. Gackt, Leslie and Dixon Gambleboxer were just some of the notable players we saw, among many others, in attendance.
