TGS 2012: AEC StarCraft II Wraps Without Singapore
The StarCraft II competition of the Asia E-Sports Cup wrapped last afternoon with Yang Chia Cheng from Taiwan, better known as GamaniaSen, taking first place.
Second position went to Timothy ‘IMMAfia’ He from Australia, while third was snapped up by Mack ‘IrisPetraeus’ Smith of New Zealand.
Singapore’s Thomas ‘FlashBlitz’ Kopankiewicz, (naturally) our favourite to win, performed under expectations.
“It was my first time overseas so I was not used to the conditions,” he said. Tokyo had been in the grip of brutal summer heat the day the first matches were played. With the buildings operating at just fifty percent of electrical capacity as part of the city’s energy conservation plan, some players cracked under the intense heat – literally.
Thomas said he hoped to be able to qualify for the AEC again, and to do much better the next time round.
“I got pretty close to Sen, though, so the trip was still worth it,” he told us with a smile.
The Asia e-Sports Cup 2012 was sponsored by Alienware (PC) and BenQ (Monitor).
