Top Gun: Maverick takes off with a brand new trailer!

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Thirty-three years, to be exact.
Ever since the original Top Gun premiered in theatres in 1986, fans have been pining for a sequel. And today, we finally see the fruits of their patience.
Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for Top Gun: Maverick, and naturally, word has spread like wildfire. It stars Tom Cruise, who reprises his role as hotshot fighter pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, alongside the likes of Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell and many others. Meanwhile, the man calling the shots is Joseph Kosinski, who previously directed 2010’s Tron: Legacy.
Is it just me, or does Kosinski have a thing for sequels?
Anyway, for those who are unfamiliar with the original, it’s an exciting story about glory, youth and humility, since Mitchell’s initial arrogance often put him at odds with other pilots. But as people say, with age comes maturity, and the sequel sees an older, much-less-cocky Mitchell mentoring a new generation of pilots. Have a gander at the trailer below!
Brrr….I suppose everyone is getting the nostalgia chills. And they have a perfectly good reason to.
That aside, the original Top Gun remains one of Cruise’s most defining films to date, second only to his role in the Mission Impossible franchise. So, you could say the sequel brings his journey as Mitchell full circle as well. On that note, we’ll just have to sit back with our Aviator glasses and see if Kosinski can pull off Maverick with the same flair that sparked thirty years’ worth of passion!
