The next Overwatch patch will need a full reinstallation

Some pretty big changes are coming to Overwatch. And it’s not just Ashe and her omnic henchman Bob.
In fact, said changes will require a full reinstallation of the client, instead of just the regular patch-over. When asked about this, Blizzard responded by explaining that the sheer amount of content and back-end changes are “substantial enough that we can’t just patch over the current content efficiently”.
Speaking on behalf of Blizzard was customer service rep Drakultoh, who added that the announcement was made way in advance so players, especially those with metered connections could prepare. Here’s the link for your reference.
We’re not really sure what Blizzard intends to do with this whole “renovation effort” (so to speak), but it’s definitely more than just bug-squishing and hero balancing. Who knows, it could even be a UI or HUD overhaul to give the entire Overwatch experience a facelift.
Until it drops, nobody is going to know for sure, since Drakultoh didn’t provide any further information.
But what we do know is that we’ll be ready to answer the call, always.
