PS Plus Oct ‘17: MGS V The Phantom Pain, Strike Vector EX, and more

A new month, a new list of games, and very little time to play them all. Here are the titles PlayStation Plus members in Asia can redeem starting 5 October.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Action-Adventure
by: Kojima Productions / Konami Digital Entertainment
for: PlayStation 4
What is it: Go stealth or go guns blazing in a series of “tactical espionage operations.”
‘V’ has come to in the final chapter of the Metal Gear saga, closing a journey nearly thirty years in the making. Players control ‘Big Boss’ as he wakes from a coma, setting off a chain of events fueled by conspiracy, revenge, and A-ha’s ‘Take on Me’. Creep on soldiers, blow up giant robots, and send sheep flying in the game marred by Hideo Kojima’s parting with Konami.
Strike Vector EX
Aerial Combat
by: Ragequit Corporation
for: PS4
What is it: Macross meets Hawken for some intense mech-powered dogfighting.
Hover around a corner to unleash point-blank devastation. Pirouette away from a crisscrossing web of missiles. Blast through a series of tunnels with afterburners at full tilt. Srike Vector EX takes dogfighting into the next century with its blistering pace, transforming jets, and six degrees of freedom movement, all while letting you deck your ship in just the right colors. The single-player campaign and a mix of multiplayer modes will help you fill the gap between now and Ace Combat 7.
RIGS: Mechanized Combat League
First-Person Shooter/Sports
by: Guerilla Cambridge / Sony Interactive Entertainment
for: PS4 + PlayStation VR
What is it: Fictional sports but with exosuits and guns.
Being a fast-paced virtual reality title, RIGS ops for short rounds rather than a full match of football. There are three modes for players and their agile, weaponized exosuit to hop into: a good old team deathmatch, a “Power Slam” that’s slightly reminiscent of capture the flag, and “Endzone” which mimics American football with its holographic ball and goalposts. Different rigs are available and it comes with both a campaign and online multiplayer.
Hue
Puzzle-Platformer
by: Curve Digital / Fiddlesticks
for: PS4, PS Vita
What is it: In a world without color, one boy’s magical ring will help him find his mother.
Inject some color into Hue’s monotonous world with this indie puzzle-platformer, and we mean that quite literally. By filling in the background and alternating between colors, players can discover and interact with the various objects needed to progress. The game is presented as increasingly difficult levels but narration from Hue’s mother helps to tie it all together.
R-Type Dimensions
Shoot-em-up
by: Irem / Tozai Games
for: PlayStation 3
What is it: A compilation of two classic SHMUPs from the ‘90s.
Forged in the fires of the arcade age, both R-Type and R-Type II deliver old-school bullet hell straight to your home. They’re the 2D side-scrolling variant with a hunger for players’ lives, and this modern release keeps things that way for the purists. If you’re just after some couch co-op fun, however, then there’s a setting that basically grants you infinite lives. Dimensions also includes a toggle for remastered assets.
